Opportunity Card: plan what happens after you arrive

Getting permission to look for work is a starting point. It helps to picture an ordinary week after arrival: applications, language practice, housing and the money you have left.

Look for evidence in your target market

Choose roles that match your profile and look at current vacancies. Note which employers ask for German, what experience they want and where the jobs are. This gives you a stronger plan than relying on a general promise that Germany needs workers.

Give your search a limit

Estimate your monthly costs and the number of months you can cover without an offer. Set a point when you will review the results and change your search, location or next step if necessary.

  • List target employers and roles.
  • Prepare your CV and qualification documents.
  • Plan accommodation and a realistic language routine.
  • Check the official conditions for your own route.

Know the next residence step

An offer is not the end of the paperwork. Check which residence title would fit that job and when you would need to apply. The responsible authority decides your individual case.

Your next step

Make the job-search plan and the money plan together. Review official requirements before you spend on travel.
